Mike Gray is a film photographer born and raised in Texas, now based between Los Angeles and Europe. He originally moved to LA to pursue acting, but in 2020, he picked up a camera and found a new way to tell stories.

His work sits somewhere between cinema and still photography, moody, intentional, and often staged. Mike is drawn to close up portraiture and constructed scenes that feel like moments pulled from a film that doesn’t exist yet.

Much of his work focuses on reimagining history, placing people of color into narratives and time periods where they’ve traditionally been left out. Instead of documenting the past as it was, he reshapes it. Creating images that challenge familiar stories and offer something more powerful in their place.

There’s always an underlying tension in his photos: beauty mixed with discomfort, nostalgia paired with critique. Through that, he explores themes of identity, race, and power, both past and present.

Though he’s relatively new to photography, his work has quickly gained attention for its bold perspective and cinematic style. For Mike, this is just the beginning. He’s focused on pushing the narrative forward and making work that actually says something.
